Colombian Supremo (Green)
More than a century ago, the first coffee growers appeared along the banks of the Piedras and Manzanares Rivers, planting the Typica variety. They also planted tapioca, bananas, plantains, corn and caladium. A few farmers began to acquire small farms and organized them into the three large farms there today, El Tolima, Onaca and Manzanares. The region has an abundance of fresh water springs, keeping the soil moist even where the weather is very dry and attracting a large number of migratory birds to the surrounding trees, for example the sparrow hawk, solitary sandpiper, blackbird, buchipecosa and blue warbler. Also indigenous to the region, one can find macaw, toucan, bag bird, azulejo and parrots.
